Devices & playback #
You can watch your club on whatever you have to hand: a laptop at your desk, your phone on the move, a tablet on the sofa, or a larger screen in the living room. This page explains where you can watch, what you need for a good picture, how signing in works across your devices, and how to keep playback smooth.
Wherever you watch, you use the same account and the same subscription. Sign in once on each device and your club, your plan, and your place in a video all come with you.
Where you can watch #
Open your club's Matchday Live site in a web browser on a computer or laptop and watch straight away, with nothing to install. For the best experience, keep your browser up to date and use a recent version of a mainstream browser such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge.
Watch in your phone or tablet's web browser, or, if your club offers one, in their app from the App Store or Google Play. The app is built for smaller screens with touch-friendly controls, and you can keep video playing in a small window while you browse elsewhere on the device.
Many supporters like to watch on a larger screen. Where your club offers it, you can watch through their app on a smart TV or streaming device. You can also connect a laptop to a television, or use your phone or tablet's built-in screen-sharing, to enjoy the match on a bigger picture.
What you need for a good picture #
A steady internet connection matters more than anything else for smooth playback.
| If you want to watch in... | A good connection is roughly... | Tips |
|---|---|---|
| Standard quality | A few megabits per second | Fine on most home and mobile connections |
| HD | Around 5 Mbps or more | Best over home broadband or strong Wi-Fi |
| The sharpest available | A fast, steady connection | A wired connection, or strong Wi-Fi close to the router |
The figures above are a rough guide. The player checks your connection and picks a suitable quality for you automatically, so you do not need to set anything to get started.
Choosing your quality #
By default, the player adjusts quality to suit your connection and changes it on the fly as your connection varies. You can override this from the quality control in the player if you prefer.
Auto recommended The player picks the best quality your connection can handle and adapts as it changes. Right for most people, most of the time.
Higher display A sharper picture for a strong, steady connection on a larger screen. Uses more data.
Lower display A softer picture that keeps playing smoothly on a slower connection, and uses less mobile data.
Signing in across your devices #
Your account works on every device. You simply sign in on each one with the same email and password.
- ●
Open your club on the new device
Go to your club's Matchday Live site in a browser, or open their app, on the device you want to add.
- ●
Sign in
Select Sign in and enter the email and password you signed up with. If you have turned on the extra one-off code at sign-in, enter that too.
- ●
Pick up where you left off
Your plan and your Continue watching list are already there, so you can carry on with a video on one device that you started on another.
Watching on more than one screen at once #
Your subscription is for your own use. Most plans allow a sensible number of screens to watch at the same time, and the exact number is set by your club. Set by your club
If you try to watch on more screens than your plan allows, you may be asked to stop one of the other streams first. Signing out on a device you are no longer using frees up a stream for another.
Can my whole household watch on different devices?
Usually yes, up to the number of streams your plan allows at the same time. Everyone signs in with the same account. If you all want to watch separate matches at once, check what your club's plan includes, as there is a limit on how many streams can run at the same time.
